Ah, love these short blogging weeks, when I can miss some sleep and still make it until the weekend without hallucinating. Here are some remains of the day:
* Speaker announces House coming back into session Sunday, but will await developments in the Senate before anything at all happens on the fiscal front. Looks like it’s just Boehner Kabuki, at taxpayer expense.
* Rep. Edward Markey announces candidacy for Senate special election that will be held if and when John Kerry is confirmed as Secretary of State. Interestingly, Markey ran briefly for this same seat back in 1984, before withdrawing in favor of–you guessed it–John Kerry.
* Two Washington Democratic state senators defect in exchange for leadership posts, giving GOP control of chamber they thought they’d lost in November.
* At Ten Miles Square, Jonathan Bernstein mulls possibility of late kick-the-can-down-the-road deal to delay spending sequestrations even if no deal achieved on taxes or stimulus or “entitlement reform.”
* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer argues declining community college enrollments might signal an improving economy.
And in non-political news:
* For no apparent reason, Atlanta Braves bring back controversial “Screaming Indian” logo–mothballed in 1989–for use on 2013 batting practice caps.
