So, Political Animal readers, why should you go to the cost and trouble of supporting the continuation of this blog? There are plenty of other outlets for news and views, some of them benefitting from far more resources than WaMo can muster. Why PA?
Perhaps the best argument I can make for supporting PA is that there are a lot of different answers to that question. There are not a lot of “news cycle” blogs in operation, that help guide you through the news day. Most–nearly all, in fact–sites offer far fewer posts per day. And most of those that are more abundant don’t offer a single, distinctive point of view or style.
There are wonky sites and politically focused sites, but few that obsess about politics with a trained wonk’s eye for politically relevant policy arguments. Some typically snark and some dive deep, but not many do both. A lot of writers can achieve heights of righteous indignation, but they don’t tend to be those who also have a sense of humor. And a historical perspective–much less an abiding interest in the intersections of politics with culture and religion–is not terribly common in the blogosphere.
So I’d like to think PA provides a unusual mix of information and opinion with an exemplary consistency and a unique “voice,” supplemented by an active and exceptionally well informed reader community. All that and music videos!
If you agree in part or in whole, then PA and WaMo should be worth a small tax-deductible contribution to keep the wolves away from the door. I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this request, in part because this blog and this magazine have always been part of my own reading before I became a producer as well as a consumer.
