We’ll be on a Lite Federal Holiday Blogging schedule Monday for the MLK commemoration. As a southerner, this has always been an important day for me, and I’ll try to provide some content relevant to Dr. King’s unfinished mission.
Here are some remains of this day:
* Ezra Klein makes a strong argument that so long as GOPers make fiscal commitments to everyone else, they’ll continue to try to starve programs benefitting the poor.
* Our friend Blue Girl reports the Missouri legislature is considering a bill to bring back execution by firing squad.
* Wealthy GA GOP Senate candidate David Perdue (cousin of ex-Gov. Sonny) steps in it by defending Wall Street bailout. Wait til Paul Broun gets a-hold of that.
* At Ten Miles Square, Keith Humphreys commemorates the NSA debate with a recommendation that we watch (or re-watch) the 1965 classic, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold.
* At College Guide, Robert Kelchen critiques a proposal to make federal student aid contingent on states meeting a “maintenance of effort” requirement.
And in sorta non-political news: Duck Dynasty ratings down sharply from last year. Somebody needs to tell that to the people running the gift shop in the Baton Rouge airport, where DD merch has big presence.
