Not seeing any musical birthdays I want to celebrate, here’s a wonderful performance by the great Prog band Gentle Giant I stumbled upon last night. It’s “I Lost My Head,” from the 1976 album Interview. Watch for the sudden musical leap of a half-millennium or so at the 3:00 mark. Very typical of these guys.

UPDATE: To lowtechcyclist: I’ll address your plea for more contemporary music a bit later today (short answer: I think you are in a decided minority here!). In the meantime, while I’ve always been a Jethro Tull fan, I don’t think Tull at its absolute peak could hold a candle musically to Gentle Giant, so no, I don’t believe GG is a “knockoff.” They might have been more successful commercially if they had been that.
