For those of us prone to complain about slow news days, this is the week we’ve been waiting for. In about 40 minutes, the Supreme Court is likely to roll out a landmark decision or two–and will probably decide four big cases by week’s end. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the Corker-Hoeven “border surge” amendment to the Gang of Eight immigration bill at 5:30 PM EDT, which is being widely treated as the key test vote on the underlying bill. Tomorrow afternoon the president is delivering a big speech on climate change, announcing an agenda of executive initiatives that will make the fossil fuel industry and most of the GOP howl with a shrieking rage matching anything we heard in 2009 or 2010. And all that is aside from the bizarre Snowden saga (Where will he land next? Has he become more myth than man?) and the wild volatility of financial markets.
Each of these issues is complex enough to demand many thousands of words. We’ll do our best here to keep up and occasionally dive a little deeper than the average blog.
