I have to admit that net neutrality, the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet equally and not discriminate or charging differently by user, content, site, platform, application, or mode of communication, is one of those policy areas about which I haven’t paid much attention.

Probably like most people I tend to think of it as one of those things about which only the world’s nerds need be concerned.

But this video might change your impression of what is at stake.

“The Internet Must Go” is satirical documentary in the Michael Moore tradition in which several the country’s biggest internet service providers, Verizon, ATT&T, Time Warner, and Comcast, hire market researcher John Wooley, who is hired to help sell their vision for net non-neutrality or, as they call it, a “faster, cleaner” Internet.

This is what he discovered.

The movie features Senator Al Franken(D-MN), “The Daily Show” regular John Hodgman, innovators like Eli Pariser of Upworthy and music by R.E.M., Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, Spoon, OK Go, and Moby.
