It’s not like they’re going to stay honest on their own.
As atrocious as the actions of Donald Trump and his minions have been, just imagine how much worse those actions would be if there was no entity to hold these people accountable, no voice to call them out on their wanton behavior, no countervailing force against their cruelty.
The Washington Monthly has resisted reactionary forces in our country for nearly 50 years. Whether it was Richard Nixon’s lawlessness and disorder, Ronald Reagan’s assault on the concept of government as a social good, or George W. Bush’s domestic damage and international insanity, we have stood and fought against those who did everything within their power to inflict permanent harm upon our democracy.
Our fight is harder than ever now. Trump wishes to choke down dissent, mute the voices of reason and logic, smash into silence those who document his dishonesty.
We need your help to counteract this threat. In the face of a president and movement that has pivoted from bad to worse to worst, we rely on your help to make sure that voices of honesty and sound policy are still heard.
What mischief will Trump and his allies cook up in 2018 and beyond? How will they further attempt to suppress the vote? How will they further attempt to weaken environmental, labor and civil rights protections? How will they further attempt to contaminate our courts?
Resisting Trump’s aggression is a joint effort. We cannot do this alone. Your support is necessary and crucial for us to continue fighting back and fighting back hard.
Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the Washington Monthly today. Through the end of the year, any donation we receive will be matched by Democracy Fund and by the Knight and MacArthur Foundations. With your help, we can continue the effort to move this country past the darkness of the Trump era, and towards a day when truth and hope shine brighter than lies and fear.
