Barack Obama chose to end 2017 in a way that captures his own unique take on things—by highlighting three stories you may have missed in 2017.
Kat Creech, a wedding planner in Houston, turned a postponed wedding into a volunteer opportunity for Hurricane Harvey victims. Thirty wedding guests became an organization of hundreds of volunteers. That’s a story from 2017. https://t.co/yxhjwkr5Se

Ten-year-old Jahkil Jackson is on a mission to help homeless people in Chicago. He created kits full of socks, toiletries, and food for those in need. Just this week, Jahkil reached his goal to give away 5,000 “blessing bags.” That’s a story from 2017. https://t.co/muxPZnEGkd

I agree. Things like that happen every day all over the country. For example, this one popped up in my twitter timeline today:
It’s a good reminder.
That’s what I wanted to say in my last post of 2017. It’s been a tough year for all of us, but we got through it together—and we’ll do the same in 2018. Before I close out, I wanted to say “thank you” to all of you who read here regularly and keep things humming. You’ve kept me going more times than I can count.
Also, this is the time of year when we really need you. In a couple of days we’ll close down our holiday fundraising drive. This will be one of your last opportunities to double your impact when you make a contribution to the Washington Monthly. Our generous foundation supporters will match your donation dollar-for-dollar through the end of the year.
As has been my New Years Eve tradition over the last few years, I’ll end my year of political pontificating with Bette Midler.
