One of the 2013’s big education policy stories was the president’s proposal to involve the federal government in the delicate process of measuring the value added by colleges in determining where they should rank. This is a subject on which the Washington Monthly had a long background, offering perhaps the preeminent current ranking systems for “bang for buck” and other contributions to the lives of students and their nation and community.
