Today Mitt Romney paused from delivering his most recent campaign message, which boasts of his “new” and “innovative” and above all freedom-loving viewpoint on public policy–as contrasted with the president’s tired old “outdated” reactionary approach–to make it clear he’s not “evolving” towards some acceptance of same-sex marriage or civil unions, nosirree!

Romney was asked Wednesday morning about the failure of a ballot measure that would have allowed same-sex civil unions in Colorado. In an interview with Denver-based KDVR-TV, he said, “I indicated my view, which is I do not favor marriage between people of the same gender, and I do not favor civil unions if they are identical to marriage other than by name,” Romney said. “My view is the domestic-partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights, and the like are appropriate but that the others are not.”

Well, that’s mighty nice of you, Mitt, to let the gay folk enter the temple of love by way of a separate entrance, if they are so inclined, just so’s they understand it’s an informal arrangement the rest of us have don’t have to acknowedge as real. Now we’ll let you go back to telling us how bold and futuristic you are, and oh yes, just mad about freedom.
