After receiving her BA in Political Science and German from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1989, Amy started her career at the American Prospect magazine, serving for ten years in various business and editorial roles and, ultimately, working as their Managing Editor. She consulted for DoubleTake magazine and then worked as a freelance copyeditor for several years before serving as editorial consultant and then Executive Editor at The Atlantic magazine during their move from Boston to Washington, DC. She began working at the Washington Monthly in the fall of 2006.
