Diane Straus

Diane has been publisher of the Washington Monthly since 2008.

From 2005-2008, she was President and Publisher of the American Prospect.  Before moving to Washington, D.C., she lived in New York, where she was Group Publisher of Manhattan Media, publisher of weekly community newspapers in Manhattan as well as Avenue Magazine.  Before that, she was publisher of the Westchester and Litchfield County Times and Trader Publications in Westchester, New York.  Before migrating to the business side, Diane worked as an editor at New York Magazine and the Village Voice.  She graduated from Yale University in the first class of undergraduate women where she founded and captained the first varsity for women in tennis.  She is a 24-time national platform tennis champion.  Diane serves on the Board of the NAACP’s Crisis Magazine and is past Board Chair of the Yale Alumni Magazine.  She has three grown children and two granddaughters.
