BLAMING THE MESSENGER…. Fox News’ Shep Smith offered viewers some thoughts this week they probably weren’t accustomed to hearing. He noted on the air, for example, that the DHS report on violent radicals are was prescient, and he criticized enraged Fox news viewers who email the network with over-the-top vitriol.
In the 48 hours that have followed, prominent conservatives have taken Smith’s concerns to heart, and begun reevaluating their role in contributing to a toxic political climate.
No, I’m just kidding. They’re calling for Smith’s head.
In response to Smith’s remarks about the Holocaust museum shooting, several conservative media figures have attacked Smith or called for his firing from Fox News.
Rush Limbaugh complained that Smith is “whining and moaning.” Atlas Shrugs’ Pamela Geller accused Smith of “scary stupidity” and being a “pompous elitist,” before arguing, “Shep sucks. And Shep has always sucked, and it’s time to get rid of the deadwood…. He has got to go.” WorldNetDaily responded by talking about an alleged auto incident involving Smith in 2000. An item on HotAir.com said Smith believes “his own viewership is teeming with would-be presidential assassins. If he truly believes that, why doesn’t he quit?”
Alan Colmes has already left the network. If Smith goes, it can be a reality-free zone from top to bottom.
