BOND CAN’T HELP HIMSELF…. Sen. Kit Bond (R-Mo.), who is inexplicably the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has proven himself to be embarrassingly incoherent while attacking the White House over national security policy. Every time he goes on television, Bond manages to seem slightly dumber than the appearance before.

This morning, he appeared on Fox News and said he didn’t know Abdulmutallab had been Mirandized. As the argument goes, Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan notified Bond that the FBI had arrested and begun interrogating the attempted terrorist, but Bond now blames Brennan for the senator’s ignorance about what happens when the FBI arrests and interrogates a suspect.

Making matters worse, Bond said he’s concerned that the administration “is going back to those pre-9/11 policies which won’t keep us safe.”

It’s hard to overstate how blisteringly stupid this is. In the context of the Abdulmutallab case, the Obama administration is handling the matter the same way Bush/Cheney handled similar cases — after 9/11. I’ve seen third-rate right-wing bloggers with a better grasp of the basics than Kit Bond.

The senator was also on Fox News last night, and said he’s not concerned with the quality of the FBI interrogations, but rather, the larger policy.

“[M]y quarrel is not with the people who are getting the information. My quarrel is with the policy that comes from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

But this doesn’t make any sense. Bond can’t think of any flaws in the president’s policy. He’s been whining incessantly, but he’s yet to name even one specific problem with the policy itself.

Kit Bond has no idea what he’s talking about. That this clown is the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee should frighten most reasonable people.
