In the interest of full accuracy it’s time to point out that it’s not just disturbed Harvard applicants who tell gigantic lies for college. According to an article by Vimal Patel in the Bryan-College Station Eagle:

Texas A&M’s No. 3 administrator presented himself as a warrior-scholar: A former Navy SEAL with a doctorate from Tufts University.

But records obtained by The Eagle indicate Alexander Kemos never was part of the elite fighting force, and Texas A&M officials confirmed Friday that he doesn’t have a doctorate or even a master’s degree, which was a posted requirement for the $300,000-a-year position that serves as the top adviser to Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin.

On Friday morning, the day after he was confronted with questions about his background by Loftin in Maine, where the pair were vacationing, he resigned.

It’s unclear if Kemos has been running this scam for years or if it’s a relatively recent development. Texas A&M hired Kemos to be the school’s senior vice president for administration in 2009. Before that Kemos was an executive at a business consulting company in Dallas called Nordic American Group.

While Kemos does appear to have attended Tufts for a period of time in the early 90s, he never earned a degree from the school. Apparently Texas A&M makes sure to check the academic credentials of faculty in the hiring process, but it does not do that when hiring for staff or administrative positions, even very senior ones like that enjoyed by Kemos.

On Friday Loftin explained that Kemos had resigned, citing “a desire to spend more time with his family.” [Image via]
