President Obama has apparently made his NCAA tournament predictions. According to a piece at piece at ESPN:

The president says Duke, Kansas, Ohio State and Pittsburgh will make the men’s Final Four, the matchups being Duke vs. Ohio State and Kansas vs. Pitt.

Obama’s national champion: Kansas, the top seed in the Southwest, over the Buckeyes, the No. 1 overall seed of the 68-team tournament.

Duke, Pittsburgh, and Ohio State are all interestingly located in swing states. The University of Kansas , however, is located solidly in a state Obama is very unlikely to win in 2012.

Newt Gingrich, apparently failing to understand that an interest in college sports is a form of leisure, expressed his disappointment that the president was devoting any time to the Final Four, grumbling that “the president has this fixation with the Final Four. Spent time on ESPN giving us his version of what really mattered to him, which is the Final Four. With all of these crises, how can you focus that kind of time and attention as president of the United States?”

The message was less than five minutes long. This was the third year that Obama taped a message about the basketball tournament for ESPN.
