A certain real estate mogul who’s pretending to run for president of the United States is now demanding that President Obama produce academic transcripts.
According to an interview the businessman had with the Associated Press:
I heard he was a terrible student, terrible. How does a bad student go to Columbia and then to Harvard? I’m thinking about it, I’m certainly looking into it. Let him show his records.
I have friends who have smart sons with great marks, great boards, great everything and they can’t get into Harvard. We don’t know a thing about this guy. There are a lot of questions that are unanswered about our president.
You’ve heard he was a terrible student? From whom?
Of course admissions are based on ambiguous things including race, background, and geographic diversity. “There are a lot of questions that are unanswered about our president.” This is like the dumbest allegation ever.
What’s particularly sordid about this is that it’s just an obnoxious request to satisfy random curiosity. The birth certificate crazies at least addressed an actual Constitutional requirement for the presidency.
But there’s no minimum grade point average necessary to be president. Even if Obama earned straight Cs at Columbia it would be the 1988 admissions committee at Harvard Law School that would have to explain itself, not the president.
