With former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich now leading in the GOP primary race comes scrutiny of his time out of office, particularly his role as an adviser to mortgage company Freddie Mac. Gingrich protested that he apparently made between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in consulting fees for his role as a “historian.”
This is quite improbable. As this article from a 1995 issue of the Washington Monthly made clear, he’s a terrible historian.
