Daylight Video

Happy Columbus Day, especially to our Italian brothers and sisters! This being a federal holiday (and one that has always been celebrated a lot more thoroughly in Washington than in many locales), I will follow a somewhat more relaxed schedule today, which will also enable me to recover from the experience of watching the Braves on Friday and my Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.

Anyway, here’s a seasonal song to kick things off today: rare video of The Kinks performing their great tribute to the drab ambitions of the British petit bourgeoisie, “Autumn Almanac.”

The Washington Monthly was founded in 1969 to tell the stories of how government really works—and how to make it work better.
