It was dispiriting for me yesterday to write a post defending the MSM from accusations they were throwing the election to Mitt Romney with their excitement over the story/narrative/arc of Mitt’s Big Comeback–on grounds that actual voters are affected a lot less by this stuff than many panicked progressives imagine, at least in a close election.

But that doesn’t mean the herdthink of a lot of political coverage and the remarkably superficial analysis even of the pure horse-race data doesn’t bug me, a lot, as it should you. And that’s why here at the Washington Monthly, we’ve commissioned a film about a very different tradition of political journalism that our founder, Charles Peters, instilled in a whole generation of writers.
