As hinted earlier, I had a bad and relatively sleepless night, for no particular reason. So we’re catching up with the schedule a bit late, no thanks to a news day vitiated by the formal beginning of the August Miasma (a.k.a. recess).
Here are some mid-day news/views items of varying quality:
* Interesting: Paulite state party chief invites Ted Cruz back to Iowa for a second major fundraiser.
* Rick Scott launches another purge of Florida voter files to eliminate minority folk suspected of being noncitizens. Last such purge was an outrageous fiasco.
* IBT media buys what’s left of Newsweek, freeing the Daily Beast of its zombie presence.
* At Plum Line, Jonathan Bernstein explains “silly season” story of RNC threats aimed at CBS and CNN for airing programming about Hillary Clinton.
* Nancy Mace, potentially the most dangerous of Lindsey Graham’s primary opponents, formally announces for the Senate.
And in non-political news:
* Twelve more players accept 50-game suspension by MLB in Biogenesis case; A-Rod’s fate will be announced later today.
