If you are interested in the intersecting topics of religion and politics, or just wonder what if anything your Member of Congress professes to believe about the ontological order of the universe, check out this updated list and map of the religious affiliations of Congress-critters posted by Buzzfeed’s Hunter Schwarz.

I was not in the least surprised to find that my home state of Georgia had the most heavily Baptist House delegation of them all, with 9 of the 13 Members so affiliating. But then again, the district in which I spent most of my adult life before leaving Georgia is represented by one of the chamber’s two Buddhists (Hank Johnson). In living memory (1975-85), the same district was represented by a Jew (Elliot Levitas).

Check out the map and list, and if you’re really into this sort of data, you can compare the breakdown to some lists from past Congresses here. And then there is the first Congress here.
