I hope we are not at war by the time I return on Monday to commemorate Labor Day. Yes, it would be nice to talk about labor on Labor Day, wouldn’t it?
In any event, here are some remains of the day:
* Liz Cheney campaign accuses Enzi campaign and/or NSRC of backing push-poll suggesting that she’s a baby-killing friend of sodomites, or words to that effect.
* White House upset at leaks about Pentagon misgivings on Syria strike.
* New study shows poverty negatively affects cognitive faculties and decision-making. It’s also really really bad for your health.
* At Ten Miles Square, Mark Kleiman discusses new DOJ policy on prosecution of state-licensed cannabis businesses. It’s very nuanced and potentially ambiguous.
* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer argues that the Department of Education needs to do a vastly better job of improving awareness of its own loan forgiveness and payment option programs.
And in non-political news:
* Last week’s Breaking Bad episode boosting sales of “tableside guacamole” at Albuquerque restaurant where crucial scene taped. Don’t think it was a “product placement,” but you never know.
OK, that’s it for the last week before Labor Day, and it’s a good thing for every news-cycle blogger to survive August in a non-election year. Sam Knight’s back in for weekend blogging. Let’s close with one more song about international crisis, featuring the crisis that still haunts my dreams, the Cuban Missile Crisis. It’s Tom Lehrer with “So Long, Mom, I’m Off to Drop the Bomb.”

Selah.
