It’s hard to believe, but in just two weeks Breaking Bad will be history. I haven’t been quite so high on the show as some — though it’s a fine show, I think it’s been flawed and uneven. But it’s definitely gotten better and better over time. The episodes from this final season have been superb, and it’s a pleasure to see a series go out on such a high note. Not all of them do; hence the immortal term “jumping the shark.”

But this season especially, Breaking Bad has become a great crime thriller, with scenes of gut-churning, nerve-wracking suspense that are so seriously intense I feel like a need a tranquilizer afterwards. I love it!

Below is a brilliant Breaking Bad mash-up of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) singing “My Way.” And OMG, if that’s not the perfect Walter White anthem, I don’t know what is. Let me explain: I love Frank Sinatra, but I loathe that song. I hate it because it reminds me of everything that was hollow, grandiose, and twisted about Frank Sinatra the man, rather than everything than was sublime and transcendent about Frank Sinatra the artist. That’s why the only version of “My Way” that does it justice is the Sid Vicious’s classic punk rock cover. Such a song was made to be travestied.

But as an ode to male narcissism, “My Way” totally works as Walter White’s theme song. You did it your way? Oh yes, Walter, that you certainly did.
