So you’ve got Republicans who want to sue the president, and Republicans who want to impeach him.
I suspect the triumphant “third way” was just articulated by Mike Huckabee on a popular conservative radio show in (where else?) Iowa (per Brian Tashman at RightWingWatch):
Mike Huckabee appeared on Monday’s edition of Iowa-based Steve Deace’s radio talk show, where he said President Obama “absolutely” deserves to be impeached but cautioned that Republicans should not pursue impeachment at this time since the GOP doesn’t have the votes to convict him in the Senate.
“There’s no doubt that he has done plenty of things worthy of impeachment,” Huckabee said.
This, of course, begs the question of what Republicans would do if they win a majority of the Senate in November.
Huck was in rare form generally. I don’t know if he’s been reading Ross Douthat’s charges of “presidential caeserism,” but if so he gives it a nice Christian Right spin, as you might expect of an ordained Southern Baptist minister:
Earlier in the show, Huckabee accused Obama of deliberately weakening border security and creating lawlessness: “The government is going to have to secure the border. There’s a big difference between what we owe God and what we owe Caesar, and right now we’ve got Caesar acting like God.”
And then there’s this:
Huckabee also said that the U.S. should not have a problem constructing a fence along the southern border with Mexico since Israel built a barrier around areas of the West Bank.
Oh yeah. That’s just what we need: converting the U.S.-Mexican border into the Middle East.
