A small psychological bonus congressional Republicans got from their congressional gains yesterday is that they are about to end their brief but embarrassing period of being a club for Christians Only. Yes, Lee Zeldin defeated Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop in NY-01, and so filled the vacuum created by Eric Cantor’s defeat and subsequent resignation from the House. This may also indirectly help Sheldon Adelson sleep better at night after writing gigantic checks to Republicans who may privately think he’s going to hell in a handbasket for rejecting Jesus.
