First Republican Debate: LiveBlog 5

Finally, foreign policy.

–Weird Bret Baier question about Iranian general going to Russia goes to Trump. He goes off on stupid negotiators, one of his hearty perennials.

–Cold War fever rises as Baier blames Russia and China for cyber-warfare. Cruz goes back to 1980 and hostage release on Reagan’s inauguration!

–Carson asked if he would have sent troops into Syria. Carson dodges it but says we should “shore up military.”

–Walker asked what he’d do if Russia destablized Baltic states: Walker gets off well-planned quip about Russian hackers knowing more about HRC’s emails than we do! Yuck yuck! Then he calls for maximum U.S. intervention everywhere.

–Huck asked about same-sex policies in military; he goes all “hollowed-out military.”

–Had to happen: Paul asked about past support for cutting off aid to Israel. Does his usual thing about beginning to cut foreign aid for enemies first.

–Since this is part of the plan for this debate, Christie asked to comment on Paul’s position; mildly disagrees re Israel.

Cruz tries to jump in, but told it’s time for commercials and then closing statements.
