I really hadn’t thought of the connection between Donald Trump and the fictional right-wing character Bob Roberts in the 1992 movie starring Tim Robbins until it was mentioned in a Frank Rich column. This clip from the movie featuring Roberts’ big anti-welfare and anti-political correctness song, “Complain, Complain, Complain,” plus some commentary about Roberts that sounds a lot like alarums about Trump, is amazingly apt. The fact that this particular clip includes Spanish subtitles makes it kinda perfect.

I wasn’t a big fan of Bob Roberts when it was released because I thought it was more than a little over the top. Maybe it was just premature.
