The airwaves and inter tubes are full of commentary today about Sarah Palin’s endorsement of Donald Trump. But one reaction stands out to me. If your irony meter is indestructible, it might survive the quote below. Obviously mine isn’t, because it broke.

“It’s just classless,” said a former senior adviser to McCain of the endorsement, predicting it would backfire. “It’s undermining to a key Trump message which is one of competency. What Trump has said is that he’s going to hire the very best people and bring in men of Carl Icahn’s ilk … and he’s appearing with someone who’s viewed as one of America’s most astounding morons.”

That indicates that the guy who originally gave Sarah Palin a place in the national spotlight and thought she was qualified to be a heart beat away from the presidency actually thinks she is “one of America’s most astounding morons.”

Senator McCain can never take back the fact that he chose Sarah Palin to be his running mate in 2008. But the least he could do for America is to apologize for such an egregious error.
