Yesterday, I mentioned my concern that if Donald Trump becomes President, our children will absorb the message that bombastic and bigoted behavior is good. Sadly, it appears that the next generation is already absorbing that message:

The chanting started with a rude taunt: Newton North [Massachusetts] High School students cheering for their basketball team [on March 11] shouted, “Where are your girls?” to the fans of Catholic Memorial School, an all-boys school.

But the response from the Catholic Memorial fans to their opponents, many of whom are Jewish, left the Newton North crowd horrified and upset: “You killed Jesus!” shouted about 50 to 75 Catholic Memorial students. “You killed Jesus!”

The Newton North students fell silent, their faces registering surprise and anger.

“I found it chilling,” said Newton Superintendent David Fleishman, who arrived at the game, which was held at Newton South High School, about 20 minutes later. Fleishman said he was immediately approached by a visibly upset parent who told him she was shaken. “In my mind, this is incredibly upsetting and troubling, and they have a lot of work to do at Catholic Memorial,” Fleishman said.

Fleishman contacted the Anti-Defamation League about the incident, and said Newton students would discuss it at school on Monday. Newton officials will also discuss the Newton fans’ use of a joking reference to male anatomy, which Fleishman acknowledged could also be offensive.

The president of Catholic Memorial issued a statement Saturday condemning the “abhorrent behavior” of the students and promising to work to end it.

This is the dark legacy of Donald Trump. The mendacious multimillionaire has emboldened anti-Semites across the nation, putting American Jews at risk. Remember the fears of revived anti-Semitism in the US after Mel Gibson’s film The Passion of the Christ was released twelve years ago? Thanks to Trump, the threat to the safety of American Jews is far higher today than it was when Gibson fired his potentially lethal anti-Semitic weapon.

Trump truly has no conscience. What went wrong in this man’s mind? What prevents him from seeing those who are different from him as fellow human beings? Why does this man love hate?

Doesn’t he see what he is inspiring? He is ultimately responsible for the Catholic Memorial controversy; through his words and actions, he has convinced far too many Americans that scorn is a strength and viciousness is a virtue.

Donald Trump is terrorizing this country, turning the land of the free into the home of the depraved. He has, in essence, declared war on every American who is not a rich white Christian male. A unified, motivated American progressive movement is the only entity that can possibly prevent his hostile takeover of White House property, the only resistance force that can halt his aggressive advance, the only power that can stop his path of rage.
