is the founder of Search for Common Ground, a nonprofit dedicated to conflict resolution, and a visiting scholar in peacebuilding and social entrepreneurship at Leiden University. During the Vietnam war he was a foreign service officer in the State Department and, later, an aide to Sen. Clifford Case (R.-N.J.). In 1974 he coauthored, with Victor Marchetti, The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence.
