We wouldn’t keep bringing this up if it weren’t important. Seriously.
The Monthly‘s annual fundraising drive continues this week. If you’re a regular, you know that the Washington Monthly offers the kind of cutting-edge reporting and analysis the country needs now more than ever, breaking big stories well ahead of other media outlets.
While those who’ve already contributed have our most sincere thanks, I hope those who haven’t will consider making a tax-deductible donation. It can make a big difference.
This does matter. A few years ago, back when I was in graduate school, I wrote a piece about the Washington Monthly and its history and finances. Check it out here, if you’ve got a minute.
I pointed out that, like virtually all magazines of ideas, the Washington Monthly doesn’t make that much money. While we have print and online ads, this only covers part of our overall expenses, which means that we depend on contributions from readers to keep publishing.
To keep us going strong, we need a little help. Your donation will not only help the magazine, but also help support this blog. (The image is of the Monthly’s September, 2005 cover. That was the first college guide.)
This year the publishers are adding a nice incentive:
So give generously — $25, $50, $100 — and if you donate $150 or more, we’ll send you a hardcover copy of Monthly founder Charles Peters’ latest book, Lyndon B. Johnson, individually signed by the author. It’s the latest in “The American Presidents” series. The New Yorker says it is “illuminating” and “a resonant portrait of a man of prodigious political abilities, who was driven, but ultimately undone, by his temperamental flaws.”
So, I hope we can count on your support. Just click here to help out. You can donate online, through PayPal, or through the mail.
Thanks.
