Porn actor (and occasional real actor) James Deen was scheduled to be a guest speaker for a class at Pasadena City College last week. That didn’t go over too well.
Some critics wondered how on earth an institution of higher learning would dare to invite an adult film star to campus. As Dave Smith wrote about the decision to invite Deen to campus:
Hey PCC parents… Is this one of the IDIOT classes you are paying for for your little darlings?
And America wonders why our young people are turning into adults with no salable skills for the workplace. Amazingly stupid.
And so campus administrators decided the event would no longer be a public lecture; only students enrolled in the affiliated class would be allowed to show up. Here’s more about the event:
I mean, it is a class called “Navigating Pornography.” What were you expecting?
The college said that it closed the lecture to the public because the professor, Hugo Schwyzer, “didn’t follow proper procedures when he sought a permit for Deen’s appearance.” The school couldn’t ensure security at the event.
Schwyzer said that he followed the same procedure for Deen that he follows for all other guest lecturers, though he admitted that Deen, a PCC alumnus, is, unlike most of his other guests, actually famous. This probably makes things a little more complicated.
There were, apparently, no actual protests surrounding the event.
