In case we’re looking for more evidence that college is too expensive and people are taking desperate measures to avoid crippling debt, here’s a new, slightly questionable development.
Higher education has long been the setting for various pornographic movies but now, according to this article by Maddie Bradsher in the Independent Journal Review, porn is giving back. Now you can get a scholarship from porn:
Popular porn site Pornhub.com has offered a $25,000 college scholarship to applicants who have a minimum 3.2 GPA and submit a personal video.
Not THAT kind of video. Applicants must answer the question “How do you strive to make others happy?”
Well that’s… fun. It’s not objectively all that bad. The question is open-ended enough that it’s hard to know really what they’re looking for here. Presumably one should avoid making it too porn-themed, because everyone’s going to do that.
The money isn’t directly coming from the same guys who run the porn site. No, this scholarship will come from the company’s “philanthropic program, Pornhub Cares, because that’s a thing. As Pornhub Cares (this is technically safe for work, unless you click on some of the links) explains:
We work hard to help make millions of people feel happy every single day. In turn, we would like to help support the recipient of the first annual Pornhub Scholarship to realize their goal of doing the same!
They offer few guidelines other than that. It’s probably best to avoid being too anti-porn, however. “I strive to make others happy by helping everyone to avoid the dangers of sexual exploitation” will probably not go over well.
I’m not a regular reader of IJR, but I really look forward to learning who wins this scholarship, and what he or she says in his video.
