So: ready for something completely different? Check out Louis Barbash’s piece from the May/June issue of the Monthly examining the endless fascination with The Great Gatsby that has produced five movies in five decades, including the latest edition.

If you’re still hungry for political news, here are some final items of the day:

* ThinkProgress takes note of still another Republican congressman who thinks everything other than guns–in this case, legalized abortion–causes school shootings.

* Obama names OMB controller, now responsible for overseeing sequestration, acting IRS director. Clearly a guy who’s given up any aspirations to popularity.

* Fred Wertheimer points out IRS regs governing 501(c)(4) organizations were promulgated in 1959. Yeah, a few things have changed since then.

* At Ten Miles Square, Jonathan Bernstein expresses sympathy for Harry Reid’s situation in contemplating real filibuster reform.

* At College Guide, Andrew Gelman dives deep in explaining Niall Ferguson’s admittedly “stupid” remarks on Keynes. He thinks Ferguson was mainly trying to entertain an audience paying for his “lecture.”

And in non-political news:

* Arrest warrant issued for the athlete formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, who seems to have skipped a couple of probation meetings recently. Long quick trip down from Dancing With the Stars.

That’s it for a day when we managed to publish quite a few posts that didn’t use the word “scandal,” even in quotes.

I began the day with a Beatles tune, so let’s end it with a cover of a Beatles tune by my very favorite Athens-Atlanta band, Guadalcanal Diary: “And Your Bird Can Sing.” Always thought this band should have made it as big as REM.
