Today is Superbowl Sunday. I am not football fan and never have been, so I don’t have much to say about that — Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl is more my speed, and I look forward to viewing it once again this year.
I will, however, issue a friendly reminder that if you order out for food during the big event, please tip your delivery person generously. Dave Jamieson of the Huffington Post wrote an interesting story this week about how pizza delivery people are getting stiffed by delivery charges. Pizza delivery fees first started being introduced about a decade ago. Then, they were a modest 50 cents; now, they’ve swelled to up to $3 an order. Delivery people argue that the charges have caused lower tips which eat into their already-low (and in many cases declining) pay. Did you know that many delivery people, like service people in restaurants, get paid below the minimum wage, and so rely on tips to get by? So c’mon people — do the right thing!
My music pick for this morning is this fun video from a while back by Grimes of her song “Oblivion.” The reason I chose it for Superbowl Sunday is that it has a football theme, albeit with a feminist, gender role reversal twist. Hipster chick Grimes, who remains fully clothed throughout, wanders across a football stadium, field, and then locker room, admiring the scantily clad male eye candy. Enjoy!
